CNC Wire Bender
In a team of five, I worked to invent a CNC wire bender that could be used for by students and hobbyist in Makerspaces or at their own homes.
The wire bender is able to extrude, bend, cut aluminum wire that is 1/32nd to 1/8th inches thick.
The CNC wire bender takes in files through a USB port and processes the file through a raspberry pi. The raspberry pi then sends instructions to Arduino and the Arduino proceeds to send commands stepper motors and solenoid.
I assisted in developing the design of the CNC wire bender. I machined all of the exterior plates using a CNC milling machine. I designed and wired up all of the electrical components of the device and created the software that has the Arduino control the motors to properly bend, extrude, and cut the wire based on input file.
